Tideway Sailing
Go with the tide, not against it!
Lee-bowing is a good technique for this. Now, let say you are sailing into the wind, set your boat on a course so that it takes the tide right on your lee-bow. It's always a goo idea to try and sail leeward to your course instead of windward.
If you want to go fishing while the tides are good, simply drop your sails and anchor your craft. This will turn your sailboat into a perfect vessel for fishing. Keep a close eye on the tide table lists. These will tell you the heights of the high and low tides. Current tide tables can be used to find the exact time of high and low tides. This is very important to know.
If you don't know the height of the tide, you don't know how to anchor properly. Tidal information is also vital to know for navigation. There is no worse feeling then running a ground. Tides will also affect the speed of your sailboat and its direction. You should check with your local fishing store or coast guard for tidal information charts.
