Tall Ships
This makes it much more intricate then the modern day rigging we are use to. A tall ship is defined as a water going vessel that has an extra 30ft of waterline length.
One of the best places to see tall ships in all their glory is right here in the United States Of America. You can get up close and personal with a tall ship in Maine. These ships usually take many tourists on board in the summer and its a good way to get a taste of what a tall ship is all about.
You can even organize to volunteer on one of these ships. The American sail training organization and association get young people to work on these ships. As a gift, these people are offered free sea going training in sailing a ship. There is also an organization in Australia that offers this type of program called the Endeavour.
Tall ship races are held in Europe yearly. Up to 36 different countries come and compete. You will see tall ships from all around the world here. These races started in 1956 and and have been going every year since. Tall ships are meant to be obsolete, but the publics love for them has kept them around for many years and I'm sure many more to come.
