Flashback
Two Canadian dudes, Bruce Kirby and Ian Bruce, fetched the best idea of their lives as they thought of the prototype of laser sailing.

The “weekender” or what they used to call laser sail is the trial product of Kirby and Bruce’s brilliant minds. T.G.I.F or commonly abbreviated as “Thank God It’s Friday” is what was written in the sail of the first laser sail boat. It was until 1971 where New York Boat show renamed the weekender into Laser.

In 1996, Laser has a chance to be known worldwide as it entered the Olympics in men’s boat category and this year, Laser Radial, a smaller sail, will hit this year’s Olympics for the female boat group.

Laser Radial
The Laser standard is over shadowed by the released of Laser Radial in Europe. Much like the Standard, Laser Radial is usually made for woman. The hull and fitter is the same as the Laser standard but has a smaller sail, shorter down mast area, and has a 4.7 cut of sail which is special made for it.

Laser 4.7
Made especially for light weight people on a sail, the Laser 4.7 is like the Laser Radial because it is also small too.

This is exact replica of the standard but smaller in size. It was released a decade after the Laser Standard was in the market.

Since it is smaller in size, the sail area is reduced by 35% to equalize the wind in the sail and its body.

Rooster 8.1
If Laser 4.7 is made for light weight people, a company—Rooster Sailing-- fixes the problem for heavy sailors as they released Rooster 8.1.

Made especially for heavy sailors on sail, Rooster 8.1 offers two options for sailors. The first one has a 3.6m lower mast while the other one is made of glass fiber that has an extender for a Laser standard lower mast.

Hit the summer with Laser Sailing and enjoy the perfect weather in the beach. Be sure to choose the appropriate laser sailboat for you to prevent problems along the way. Each sailboat has a significant weight limit to consider so do not deny your weight on this matter. Consider also the reliability of the sailboat you are eyeing on, it is important that it doesn’t collapse all easily. Now, sail away!
